A magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck the Kyushu region near
Kumamoto Japan on the Thursday, 14th April 2016. The earthquake continued on
the 16th of April which 13 people have died and over thousand are
being treated for injuries after shocks are continuing.
Meteorological agencies say the quake occurred at around
1:25 am Saturday Japan time .Japan’s only operating power plant is also in
Kyushu .Officials say there are no irregularities for the two reactors and they
are all on line. About 51000 people have evacuated their homes and various
utilities have being disrupted. Transport system have also being disrupted as
officials at Kumamoto airport shut the terminal building as it was damaged by
the quake. The quake has being followed by aftershocks have weakened the
buildings in the locality which pose a threat to human life.
