Over the Ages the identity of Melchizedek has sparked lots discussion in among Christian scholars. Some believe he is the pre-incarnation of Christ .Lets have a look at the characteristics of the Bible character.
Genesis 14:17-20 ESV Abraham paid a tenth of what he had from his victories to Him and he blessed Abram.
Melchizedek in Hebrew translate Malki Tzedek-translate into King of Righteousness
He Is the King of Salem, Salem translate into Peace –Making him the king of Peace
Salem is thought to be the fore runner of Jerusalem ,which is a city of Peace ,A prophecy concerning Jesus title in Isaiah 9:6 {“And he will be called Wonderful Counselor Mighty, Everlasting Father ,Prince of Peace.” Hence if MELCHIZEDEK is the King of Peace and Jesus is the King of Peace is Equivalent, if not superior to Christ
Paul states in Hebrews 7:3 “He (Melchizedek) is without father no mother or genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life but resembling the Son of God he continues a priest forever –From these appellations of Melchizedek which is the same as Christ Characters Christ has no beginning and end because he is the Alpha and Omega, Christ is the only Priest forever, He has no mother and father.
Jesus told the disciples in John 8:56-59 (your father Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day. He saw it and was glad. Jesus said to them, truly, truly, I say to you before Abraham was, I am. It is obvious that Jesus was the person who met Abraham in Genesis 14:17
Paul said in Hebrews 7:3 “…like the son of God he remains a priest forever.” and also in Hebrews 5:6) says “You [Jesus] are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.”—It is also know that it is only Jesus who is a priest forever.
In summary the attributes of Melchizedek
Hebrews 7:1-3
1.For This Melchizedek ,King of Salem ,priest of the Most High God ,met Abraham returning from the slaughter of Kings and blessed him,2.and to him Abraham apportioned a tenth part of everything .He is first ,by translation of his name King of righteousness, and then he is also King of Salem, that is King of peace .3.He is without father or mother or genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life but resembling the Son of God he continues a priest forever.
It is very convincing Melchizedek is a divine being God, who may be the pre-incarnate of Christ because if He is not then who is He?
